Child Protection Policy

 

Aims of the policy.

Vince Nicoll Goalkeeping Schools aims to provide appropriate policies and procedures that will ensure the safety of children involved with the club.

 

Recruitment and selection of volunteers working with children

 

Vince Nicoll Goalkeeping Schools will ensure that all volunteers working with children are subject to the following checking procedures and safeguards:

Completion of an application form;

An interview by Vince Nicoll

Checking references and identity; 

Ensuring applicants have all been CRB checked;

Allowing no unaccompanied access to children until all the above have been completed;

On-going supervision of all volunteers.

 

Organisation

 

Every child must be registered with the goalkeeping school

The information includes a personal detail form about health, medication and emergency contact numbers;

Consent form for children to travel to and from activities on their own or with other parents;

These must be signed by a parent or guardian;

No volunteer will work alone with children; always two or more, one must be trained in first aid.

All volunteers have received appropriate training in working with children;

No child must be left on their own at any activity.

 

Every person within the club to be made aware of why we must have child protection.

 

Procedures to follow

 

  1. Do not investigate any allegations.
  2. Follow the general youth and children’s work guidelines
  3. Listen to the children and young people
  4. Observe children’s behaviour for sudden and dramatic behaviour changes
  5. Try to understand their home lives
  6. Ensure that everyone in the team is prepared for the fact that a child could disclose abuse or other fears at any time.

 

What we must do…

 

1.      Any disclosure by a child must be reported to the appropriate person.

2.      Always finish by assuring the child that you are treating the matter seriously and let him know what you will do next.

3.      Make notes after you have spoken to the child of exactly what the child has said, do not make judgements.

4.      Speak immediately to the NSPCC for further advice and guidance.

5.      It is vital that the action you have taken be written down, signed and dated.

 

What we should not do..

 

       1. Do not investigate the matter yourself

       2. Only discuss the matter with correct people in authority

       3.Do not make any judgements.

 

Child Protection representative

 

Vince Nicoll Goalkeeping Schools has appointed Mr Vince Nicoll to act as their Child Protection Representative to take on the following responsibilities

 

Ensuring that the policy is put into practice;

 

To be the first contact for child protection issues;

 

Keeping a record of any concerns expressed about child protection issues;

 

Where necessary take further steps, such as referring concerns to other agencies;

 

Take any child protection concerns to Vince Nicoll

 

Ensure that all volunteers are given appropriate supervision;

 

Ensure that everyone involved with the club is aware of the identity of their Child Protection Representative.

 

Vince Nicoll Goalkeeping Schools will review this Child Protection  Policy annually for the purposes of ongoing development of the policy and compliance
